Spears Fans Get Wireless Access, Chatty Check-Ins
By: Chris Marlowe

Britney Spears is the face of a new wireless concept. As with many other celebrity initiatives, fans of the all-media star can get exclusive voice and text messages sent to their wireless phones. What makes this one different is that fans purchase the service in a physical package sold in a retail store.

WFX's Britney Spears Wireless Fan Access is being presented as "a virtual backstage pass to Britney's world." The $19.99 package includes a membership card, a replica tour laminate and a static-cling decal along with a three-month subscription to the service.

Once activated, the subscription guarantees that Britney _ or at least her voice _ will surprise the fan with personal calls talking about what's going on in her life as she is backstage, shopping for new fashions, doing television appearances or whatever. Text messages and other content will arrive on the subscriber's phone, too.

All of the messages are in a chatty tone that is designed to capture the tone of a personal friend staying in touch.

The kit is the result of a collaborative effort by celebrity-brand marketing services firm NVU Prods., wireless entertainment network WFX and Samsung Telecommunications America and is available exclusively at Best Buy stores.

The concept was put together by NVU, which is also responsible for BritneySpears.com, Spears' tour merchandise, packaging and advertising for her THQ/Sony PlayStation and Game Boy Advance games, the nonprofit Britney Spears Foundation and the MathMastery poster campaign.

WFX's wireless fan club is compatible with all major digital phones and carriers that support text messaging.
